Yoga for Mental Health Training
This is a full 16hr Training held daily from 8am – 12pm every day of the Festival – Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. If participating in this Training be sure not to book yourself for any other events prior to 12pm throughout the Festival weekend. New to the festival this year – mornings learning, evenings playing! Think of this as Yoga for Self Care!
For the last over 8 years, Yoga Therapist Samantha Sambrooke, has worked in the mental health field. She is ready to share some techniques that have been effective at managing stress, improving interoception and unwinding muscular tension to anyone looking to find balance to body, breath and mind.
Whether you would like some practical tools to use in your life, or you’re a Yoga Teacher looking to add to your knowledge, this is for you.
In these hours, you will be introduced to:
- Psychoeducation and the Vagus Nerve (learn the physiologically behind the stress response including the role of the Vagus Nerve and Yoga specifically for the Vagus Nerve)
- SomaYoga (gentle movements rooted in somatics, which help alleviate chronic pain and improve physical function and mobility)
- Guided Relaxation Techniques (for anxious and busy minds)
- Breathing Exercises (for Hyperaroused as well as Hypoaroused states)
- Methods for Managing Strong Emotions (how to turn towards sensations as opposed to suppressing)
- Tips for Better Sleep (how to improve sleep hygiene and care for our senses through Ayurveda – the medical system from India, which focuses on preventative health practices)
- Yoga Philosophy and Ayurveda (connecting the dots between theory and practice so you can become empowered in choosing the exercise/technique that is suitable for you)
Please note, this series is for absolutely everybody and is designed for you to gain skills/techniques to help build resiliency against stress and bring about more balance to body, breath and mind. If you are experiencing a serious mental health issue, Yoga is potentially a wonderful compliment to other therapy(ies) you may be exploring, however, it would be important to consult with your relevant health care practitioner(s) to discuss if this is right for you at this time.
For Yoga Teachers, this experience is eligible for 16 Continuing Education hours from the Yoga Alliance.
Participants will be provided handouts. (Special Festival price $275 – a $45 savings from regular price)
