The DiverseCity Festival was created in 2007 to celebrate diversity, Canadian Multiculturalism, to connect newcomers with established Islanders and to support settlement, inclusion, anti-racism, and retention. In 2014, the DiverseCity Festival expanded to include three Prince Edward Island communities.

Retro Dance Party at the Charlottetown Beer Garden

Dance the night away in the heart of Island Tides to some good ol’ retro tunes from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and even 2000’s. Your best retro attire is highly encouraged!

Right along with the good vibes, you can expect an evening full of limbo competitions, face jewels, a 360 photo booth, a selfie station, drink specials, & MORE!

From 9pm – 12am on one of Charlottetown’s largest patios (The Charlottetown Beer Garden).

A fun movement experience like no other! Move together with an awesome variety of music from every style and genre. Work your whole body at the intensity level you choose with simple, unique movements. Groove will dance, condition, stretch and relax you. Groove will strengthen the body, nurture the heart, relax the mind & lift the soul. No dance skills are required.

Disco Zumba

Come enjoy this FREE Disco Zumba Dance Class with Polina Salabay. This active dancing class features hit music, bright energy, and an optional dress code of disco attire! It will be funny, bright, and active. The class will consist of dancing and trying to learn one easy, but active choreography, so you can expand your base of movements and get positive emotions and energy!

This class is suitable for all ages and levels of dancing experience. Meet at the Founder’s Hall Outdoor Greenspace (near the patio).

Please bring: Water bottle and wear comfortable clothes

Polina Salabay

Dance Instructor

Polina is a dancer and choreographer originally from Lviv, Ukraine. She moved to PEI in spring 2022 and continues her dancing life here as well. She has been dancing from childhood! Polina started as a student of Jazz, Modern and Contemporary classes with ballet basics and after that started to learn dive deeper in Hip-Hop! Now her the main styles are Hip-Hop and Jazz-Funk, but also she loves and enhances her skills in Vogue, Waacking, Dancehall, High Heels and of course Contemporary as her first style. She started her professional way in dance field 7 years ago, by teaching kids and adults. Her competitive teams participated in big Ukrainian competitions and got a lot of awards. The most proud her experience is participation in WORLD OF DANCE (Ukrainian final) and achieving the 9th place among all Ukrainian experienced competitive teams (about 60 of them).

Ecstatic Dance & Cacao

An opportunity to enliven, awaken, and expand. Ecstatic Dance is a free flow movement class that provides a safe and comfortable environment for you to dance and express yourself. Katlin will provide a sonic soundscape that ebbs and flows through downtempo, world beats, electronic, and atmospheric music which is intended to allow you to journey through feelings and expressions in the body, mind and spirit. Cacao is offered prior to dance as a beautiful opening ritual that allows a heart-opening experience.

All ages and experience levels are welcome! Space is limited so be sure to book early.

Please bring: A bottle of water and wear something you feel wonderful in!

Location: Charlottetown Yacht Club (outdoors – will move indoors if weather is unfavourable)

Facilitator

Katlin Doyle lives her life in devotion to the sacred in all things. She has a background in a myriad of fields which she weaves into her daily life and offerings- cacao, yoga & meditation, ritual, women’s teachings, music, and now ecstatic dance. A lifelong student of the earth, of cycles, and beauty. Out of her love of cacao, Katlin created her business in 2014, Nurturing Essence- sharing ethical and healthy chocolate and cacao creations. Alongside Katlin's chocolate offerings she has been devoted to working with hundreds of people through ritual and circle helping to guide them in reclaiming self-love, inner healing, and soul connection.
